About

Heyy, my name is Julian Lacayo...

…Before writing this, I spent like 20 minutes deciding whether or not I should talk about myself in the third person like others do. My findings were conclusive…

I’m a writer/film critic, artist, and aspiring filmmaker currently living in San Antonio, TX.

Apparently, I love movies! But aside from expending my Netflix of all content in sight, I spread out most of my time between comedy writing, guitar, nocturnal sketching sessions, Spanish, and various other research (I love making a good list). My goals are to pursue a career in writing, directing, and visual development for animation (scattered, but fits like PB and honey).

From an early age, I was completely infatuated with the world cinema. The characters. The cinematography. The dialogue. All of these factors could lead to the making or breaking of audience members. And (though behind the scenes DVD extras sustained me for weeks at a time) it was around 12 years old when this fact truly sank in, by attending my first film festival. I had been on the receiving end of cinema for so long, and I had seen another side of this unique exchange now. I wanted to be a part of this.

Anyway, long story short, I have since devoted my efforts to learning everything I can about filmmaking and animation by gaining hands-on industry experience, diving head first into art and writing projects, all while striving to find creative balance. If you’re interested in some of my experiences, you can read my resume below.

We are approaching the two year mark since my creation of Luminary View, and I’ve been rewriting this bio while thinking about all of the people, the experiences, and the doubts that have made me a better writer today. I am grateful in my creation.

Luminary View was created with the purpose of promoting a meaningful analysis of film, theatrical, and literary arts, not only from the viewpoint of a mindful critic, but also the avid movie geek. While I do enjoy investigating cinema in juxtaposition with the existence of our own world, my hope is not to find something necessarily original in the world of film critique, but rather original to myself. This is just one perspective. Through this collective of reviews and thoughts, my hope is that some films, some words, resonate at a depth with the reader, and inspires them to live life that is just a little more curious and a little more thoughtful. I’m very glad to be sharing this experience with you.

Anyway, without further adieu, let’s get exploring!
