It’s A Beautiful Day in This Neighborhood...

Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

PG-13

This is the first post of Luminary View. My name is Julian Lacayo, and I have been sharing my perspective on subjects within the entertainment culture (such as films, tv shows, books, etc.) for quite some time now; and I’m very happy to start sharing on a larger platform. I’ll kickstart this new endeavor with a few words, and some info on what this site means. Ever since I can remember, I have always had an interest in observing others, and absorbing their views. My purpose for Luminary View is to share and uncover, in detail, our natural gravity towards stories. The residue of storytelling (growing with each passing day) is everywhere, now and throughout history; whether inside the pages of books; on the walls of ancient caves; or even in your own home on the tv screen. We all relate to this; we all have our favorites. And I hope, with this site to engage you as the readers, and hopefully give something you can share with your loved ones, and take to enjoy in your own home with peace. Anyway, I’m very excited to start this new journey with all of you, and please enjoy this writing as the first of many to come...

I went to see this documentary a while back, but I can say without a doubt that this is one of the best films of 2018, so far. Won’t You Be My Neighbor? follows th life story of Fred Rogers, one of the most recognizable icons in children’s television. To many, Mr Rogers Neighborhood would serve as a safe haven; a place to learn; a place to laugh; and a place to be reminded of how special they [kids] were. For 30 years, this show would touch on many of the usual topics for children; radically even going into issues such as death, divorce, and racism. Fred Rogers believed all of these discussions and lessons, taught on a child’s level, would, in part, come together to acknowledge a child as an individual; someone with the capability for deep feelings, just as adults.

This film is accompanied with interviews from close friends and family, various experts and writers, and even some of the, now grown, children sharing the influence the show had on them. I can’t even explain how touched I was by watching this man. I had goosebumps for the majority of the film, and you can be sure for many tears as well. Rogers was also aware of the fact that children were very sensitive, and would come to consume, and act upon, anything they watched over time. He used this as a game changing tool to create an innocence and intelligence in a show for children. Fred Rogers will continue to serve as an icon  and a role model for millions, including myself, across the world for understanding, kindness, and pure love
